Ready for change?

Most of us hit a point in our lives where everything changes… or it doesn’t.

Not everyone gets hooked on opioids, but each of us has something in our life that has held us back from our goals.

Here’s the thing. Opioids weren’t a problem for me because they were always bad; they were a problem because, at first, they were just what I needed to get by. Chances are, there is something in your life that once was exactly what you needed to survive, but now it’s the very reason why you can’t thrive.

There’s another thing you need to know about me. I was addicted to opioids, but I never ended up on the street, I never got arrested, and I never hit what most people think of as “rock bottom.”

I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to hit rock bottom either. You don’t need to burn out or have your life fall apart to discover that it’s time to change.

I’ve booked a lot of internationally known speakers and Timothy McMahan King has been the best.

The Surprising Science of Faith, Hope and Love

Faith doesn’t need to be the enemy of science. In this talk, Timothy McMahan King shares his own story of healing from an opioid addiction and how both science and faith helped him along the way. He’ll provide an inside perspective on what helped and hurt as he found a path to healing. Participants will learn about common misconceptions in faith communities and where science confirms the importance of faith, hope and love in driving positive change.

The Power of Moral Narrative

The stories we tell shape how we see the world. McMahan King will share how the moral narratives we adopt when it comes to drugs and the people who use them have the power to help or harm, transform or destroy. He’ll show how what he learned about addiction can transform how you view communications and change. Learn how to harness the power of narrative for your cause as you work to change hearts, minds and the world.

When We Do What We Don’t Want To Do

The negative consequences of drug addiction can make headline news, but haven’t we all felt stuck in our own patterns of behavior or thinking that we wish we could change? Timothy will share his own story of struggling with an opioid addiction and what he learned about the science of change. A leader who understands what it takes to kick the hardest of habits can learn to tackle the hardest challenges.

A New and Very Old Ethic of Substance Use

Drug related harm and death are all around us. In this talk, Timothy McMahan King argues that much of the harm we associate with drug use isn’t from the drugs themselves, but how we treat people who use drugs. He’ll outline an ethic for understanding substance use that calls us all to ask, “what does the overdose crisis reveal about us?”
